Eclectic Collection Number 19 – 1996 Donruss Curt Schilling

The Player

Curt Schilling went from wild prospect to great big game pitcher in his nearly two decade big league career. He was unsteady with the Baltimore Orioles and Houston Astros. When he went to the Philadelphia Phillies, he became a star, leading the Phillies to the 1993 World Series. His game five performance was a rare pitching gem in that unusual fall classic. He went to the Arizona Diamondbacks, where he teamed up with Randy Johnson to win the 2001 World Series and also piled up strikeouts. In 2003, Curt was traded to the Boston Red Sox. In 2004 and 2007, Schilling and the Red Sox won World Series titles, bringing post season glory to the starcrossed city of Boston. His “bloody sock” game in the ALCS will be a part of New England sports lore for years. He retired with 216 wins a 3116 strikeouts and a 3.46 ERA/

The Set

This set is the 1996 Donruss, a full bleed photo with a foil logo graces the front. It was very typical for its time. I really like the foil logo, it has the team logo, uniform number, team name and position.

The Back

The back of this card has a lot, a rather large photo, year stats, career totals and a large Phillies logo as a watermark. Even though the back is busy, I think it works well for the card.
