Eclectic Collection Number 34 – 1993 Fleer Ultra Trevor Hoffman

The Player

Trevor Hoffman was a relief pitcher for nearly two decades, riding a devastating changeup to 601 career saves, currently second all time. He was originally a shortstop, but couldn’t hit, so the Cincinnati Reds made him a pitcher. The Florida Marlins picked him in the expansion draft. He was traded to the San Diego Padres, where he became a seven time all star. He also won the NL Rolaids Relief Man of the Year. The Padres retired his uniform number and he may be a Hall of Famer one day.

The Set

The 1993 Fleer Ultra set built on the success of the 1992 Ultra set, with the fancy graphics and full bleed photo. They also included a graphic for rookies as shown on this card.

The Back

With two photos and stats, this is definitely a premium early 90’s card back. The other part that sticks out to me is the retro Florida Marlins hat. I though those were so stylish back then. Maybe the Miami Marlins should do a turn back the clock night.
