Eclectic Collection Number 45 – 1992 Bowman Manny Ramirez

The Player

Manny Ramirez was one of MLB’s most eccentric characters and one of the most dangerous right handed hitters in history.  From 1993 – 2011, Manny hit .312 with 555 home runs and 1831 RBI for the Cleveland Indians, Boston Red Sox, LA Dodgers, Chicago White Sox and TB Rays. His on the field behavior and “idiot” personality put the phrase “Manny being Manny” into the lexicon. He was also a two time World Series champion with the Boston red Sox, a nine time silver slugger winner and a twelve time all star. His legacy is in doubt because of positive PED tests.

The Set

The 1992 Bowman set is the fourth set Bowman produced since coming back in 1989. This set is known for two things. The first is some iconic rookie cards of the generation’s biggest stars, including Mike Piazza and Mariano Rivera. The other thing is some of the photos have a high school yearbook look to them, including this one of Ramirez.

The Back

This card back included a portrait shot of Manny and would have included a team by team breakdown of his stats had he played in the majors in 1991.
